At Best Buddies Dog Grooming, we treat every dog like one of our own. Based in Bishopdale, Christchurch,& Waikuku, we offer quality grooming in a calm, caring environment — from fresh tidy-ups and fluffy blowouts to full grooms, de-sheds, nail trims, and breed-style cuts.

A family business in every sense
Best Buddies Dog Grooming has been caring for Christchurch dogs since 2011, with Jo and her family taking over the salon in 2017.
Now, after years of growing Best Buddies and building such a loyal community in Christchurch, we’re incredibly excited to be opening our second location in Waikuku from 1 October — bringing the same Best Buddies care a little closer to home for Jo, and making our services more accessible to families across North Canterbury.
What makes Best Buddies special, though, is the people behind it. Our team is experienced, loyal and genuinely close — in fact, most of us have known each other for over 15 years.
Sarah has been part of Best Buddies from the early days and is our longest-standing team member, having joined the salon in 2013. Rose joined shortly after Jo purchased the salon in 2017 and has played a huge role in its ongoing success. Erin, Sarah’s daughter, grew up around the salon and is now part of the team herself.
Donna first joined us helping with casual fill-in work and covering Jo during maternity leave, and we’re now so excited to have her come on board as a partner in the salon. Shannon is our newest trainee groomer and is doing brilliantly.
Sarah, Donna and Jo actually worked together years ago when Jo was a teenager and Erin was just a baby — and Jo and Shannon were school friends.
So when we say we’re more like family, we really mean it. 🤎
As Best Buddies grows from our Bishopdale salon into Waikuku, that’s something we never want to lose.
We pride ourselves on kind, professional grooming in a warm and welcoming environment where dogs are treated like one of our own. Whether you visit us in Bishopdale or Waikuku, you can expect the same familiar Best Buddies care, from people who genuinely love what they do. 🐾

Jo — Owner
Jo and her family took over Best Buddies in 2017, but her grooming journey started back in her teens.
These days, you won’t find Jo in the salon as much, as she’s now based in Waikari on her partner’s family farm with their kids. She still works behind the scenes and is incredibly proud of the amazing Best Buddies team.

Donna — Owner
Donna is the powerhouse of Best Buddies and the organisation behind the scenes. She manages the salon, keeps Jo’s chaos in check, juggles another job, and raises a family — all while bringing incredible skill and care to the team. As an International Master Groomer and our accounts superstar, Donna is a huge part of what makes Best Buddies so special.

Sarah — 2IC
Sarah has been with Best Buddies since the early days and is a asset to the team!
As our 2IC, Sarah brings years of grooming experience, calm leadership, and so much care to both the dogs and the team. She’s one of those familiar faces our clients know and trust — and a huge part of what makes Best Buddies feel like family.

Rose — Groomer
Rose joined Best Buddies in 2017 and we lovingly call her “the memory” of the salon — she knows every dog, every groom, and somehow remembers everything in between.
A true animal lover, Rose has a natural way with dogs and is somewhat of a dog whisperer, often managing to calm even the most nervous pups. Her care, patience, and knowledge make her such a special part of the Best Buddies team.

Erin — Groomer
Erin has quite literally grown up in a grooming salon. With a mum who’s a dog groomer, she knows the industry like the back of her hand and brings a natural confidence and care to the salon.
When she’s not at Best Buddies, you’ll often find Erin out in the paddock with her horse 'Sophie' — so it’s safe to say animals are a huge part of her life, both in and out of work.

Shannon — Trainee Groomer
Shannon is our trainee groomer and a busy mum of four, so it’s safe to say she knows how to juggle a lot.
She is a real stickler for the details and takes so much Pride in making sure every job is done properly. Her attention to detail, gentle nature, and willingness to learn make her such a valued part of our Best Buddies family.
